September 10th 2023 – Day 3319
We left at the break of dawn, our goal was to make the next anchorage before sunset. Seahorse made it, our cruising buddy, Ocean Lady, did not. They arrived at 7PM just after sunset. We had great wind for the morning, and then as it died we let the iron jenny do ore of the work. Captain Jeff has been counting the diesel. Seahorse has enough diesel to make to the next city that has the special “good” diesel”.
For lunch I made mini quiches. Jeff loves my homemade quiches, and in this case I did use a little of the precious BACON. Bacon is not found in many places in Indonesia. I also used a little Colby cheese, and cheese is also a rare commodity. Sami is not a fan of the quiches, she made her own lunch of leftover lamb back strap.
Interesting, Sami has found some Magic Ice Cream. This is to my knowledge, American pudding rebranded as Ice cream mix. It Works!. Mix up the instant pudding and freeze..AKA ice cream. THe chocolate is better than the vanilla. I think I might try home made pudding and see if it works.
After we reached our anchorage, we had a couple of events. First we had a random visitor (no picture) that came in a very interesting boat with a heavily fixed engine. He asked for many things, and unlike people we have met so far in Indonesia, he had nothing to sell. He asked for cigarettes and clothes. I had to say no to these requests. Then he asked for glasses. I thought he was asking for a snorkeling mask, then he made the universal old age reading symbol. Stretching his arm out to read. This type of glasses I do have. I have had more than a dozen on board since we left USA. It took me A moment to find where I stored them, and I gave him three.
He asked if we needed mango or papaya. We asked for papaya, settled on a price of 30,000 (less than $3.00 us). He motored away to get the papaya, and we never saw him again.
Next, Seahorse had our “mister mister” visitors. The young children have very limited English. They use “mister” for both men and women. This is because in their language “dia” is used for both men and women. The boys asked for books. Sami gave it a look, but after some time, she could only find coloring pencils and a kite.
Captain Jeff, continued his fight with the leaky shaft. In his own words, he put another band aid on the issue. This one was some Magic tape from Sami’s friend Cooper on SV Wiz.
As the night set in, seahorse was attacked by flying ants. We barricaded ourselves in behind mosquito netting, and killed the remaining invaders. We devoured the last of the fresh Hoga Island grouper. Jeff used one of the precious lemons to make a caper picatta sauce. We watched Crocodille Dunde off our hard drive, and called it a fine day.
