Tuesday September 12, 2023 – Day 3321
Today was a work day on Seahorse. Sami was up before dawn doing school work. She got up and started her day with no parental instruction. She continually displays discipline and dedication. She finished her PE course today. For pre-calculus she aced a couple of quizzes. Unlike last semester, she understands the concepts intensely.
The crew of the Seahorse, started really looking at the schedule of the SI2 Rally and the distances. The rally moves very fast, and Seahorse had decided to miss every other stop. We need to actually work and study. Regretfully the decision was made that Seahorse will move on the Labuan Bajo tomorrow. This is the city next to Komodo Island. It has diesel, a real grocery store, and the fast tour boats to Komodo Island National Park.
I made Mi Goreng for lunch. Vegetarian, but not vegan. I use and egg. The recipe includes all the locale ingredients – ginger, shallots, garlic, carrot, bok choy, noodles, egg, and kecap manis (sweet Indonesian soy sauce).
Then Jeff got the idea to Smoke the corn beef to make pastrami. Sami adores Rubens. Seahorse has pretty good food stores on board. We had gruyere, and corned beef, and sourcrout. The making of this meal took Jeff all day. It included cold smoking the corned beef, followed by some time in his favorite Instapot. He also had to make bread for the classic sandwiches. I strongly suspect that in ALL of Indonesia today – these are the VERY BEST Rubens being served.
